Mongol HD TV
Mongol HD TV (Монгол HD телевиз) was established in 2009. The channel is ranked among the top ten televisions by audience shares. In 2008, the government regulatory commission CRC made an exceptional decision to hold an auction for a licence and eight media companies took part in the bidding process. However, a year later the Secretary-General of the Mongolian People’s Party (MPP) received a license for his Shine Delhii TV. He later sold the licence to Mongol TV for MNT 800 million (approximately US$402 million), even though CRC licensing rules do not allow the sale of licenses. The license was sold to L.Chinbat, general director of Gatsuurt LLC. He used the license to establish Mongol TV and launch it in September 2009. In 2013 Mongol TV started for the first time in Mongolia full HDTV broadcasting. The channel belongs to one of the most progressive broadcasters in Mongolia with regard to innovative programming policy and respect for the law, including intellectual property law. (http://www.ikon.mn/n/edz) It also made a public statement that it does not accept pay for journalism, as opposed to the majority of mainstream television. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXTOD5XQgXA) The channel displays before the news programme an announcement: “This is not paid news, this is independent journalism, watch our programme”. The Vice-President and the editor-in-chief participated actively in the MOM advisory group. Mongol TV’s ethics is expressed in its slogan “Respect for Intellectual Property.” In 2015 Mongol TV licensed the show “Mongolia’s got Talent” which enjoys a huge popularity among Mongolian viewers, “they pay the bill for quality news journalism”, explains chief-editor E. Lhagva. The television also licenses and broadcasts prominent shows such as Oscar or Emmy Awards (http://www.ikon.mn/n/edz). The parent company Gachuurt is controlled by a MPP party official.
