Doğuş Group is a family business owned by the Şahenk family, which owns 99.3% of Doğuş Yayın Grubu (Doğuş Media Group DMG). The Group was founded in 1951 by Ayhan Şahenk, primarily, active in constructions, subsequently in finance, tourism and automotive industry. The group was also active in banking (Garanti Bank) until it sold its last %9.95 stakes to the Spanish lender BBVA Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria in February 2017.
Doğuş Media Group was founded with a capital of 2 million 870 thousand Turkish Liras in 1999 with the acquisition of NTV, it works with such global corporations as National Geographic and Condé Nast, and it continues to make major advances in the media sector. There are 4 television channels, 7 online brands, 4 radio stations, 3 licensed monthly magazines and reference books under the media group.
The group employs more than 35 thousand people and combines 250 companies in eight sectors: financial services, automotive, construction, media, tourism and services, real estate, energy and entertainment. Şahenk Family runs the operations of the company.
The group has won many tenders, including metro constructions in Istanbul and Galataport, the Giresun Aslancık Dam and Hydroelectric Power plant, which is run with the group's partnership with Doğan Group.
In leaked phone conversations attributed to Nermin Yurteri, the editor in chief of NTV news channel, which belongs to Doğuş Group, she was heard having a conversation with then the Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s Chief Advisor Yalçın Akdoğan. In the conversation, Akdoğan pressured her to have pro-government guests on air among various other editorial interferences.
According to the Holding's 2020 financial results, the total loss of the holding, which was 889 million Turkish Liras (TRY) in 2019, increased to 5 billion 551 million TRY in 2020.
The current capital of the company is 862,037,305 TRY.
It is alleged that the group has billions of unpaid commitments with the public.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, Doğuş Holding chairperson and CEO Faik Şahenk was invited to the opening ceremony by the opposition parties CHP and İYİ Party although he has close relationship with the government. He said that he was in contact with Covid-19 patient and did not attend the meeting. However, it was claimed that Şahenk attended the opening ceremony of the AKP and cut the ribbon the next day.

He founded Dogus Holding, a steering and management of Dogus Group, in 1975. Şahenk became a shareholder with Aydın Doğan for DTV Haber ve Görsel Yayıncılık (Kanal D) in 1993. He transferred his shares to Doğan Group in 1995. Ayhan passed away in 2001 after a heart attack. His spouse and children are running operations of Dogus Group. A foundation named after him, Ayhan Sahenk Vakfi was established in 1992 and focuses on health, the environment, education and social welfare. His daughter, Filiz Sahenk is the president of the foundation.
